Blue Nectar Founder’s Blend Añejo Tequila

Small-batch tequila producer Blue Nectar has announced its first batch of Founder’s Blend Añejo Tequila.

Created by father-son co-founders BN Bahadur and Nikhil Bahadur, and master blender Guillermo Garcia-Lay, each batch of Añejo Founder’s Blend will vary slightly in structure, the company says, with a focus on balancing agave and oak notes.

The blends will consist of añejo tequila, varying in age from 1 to 2 years, and a proportion of limited-production extra añejo, including 5-year-old extra añejo.

“The release of the Añejo Founder’s Blend is very exciting for us because distributors, consumers and bartenders have been asking for a Blue Nectar añejo since we started producing,” says Nikhil Bahadur in a press release. “We spent close to two years tinkering to find the right marriage of oak without masking the inherent complexity of the agave.”

The first batch of the Blue Nectar Añejo Founder’s Blend, available in select U.S. markets starting February, features añejo tequila aged 2 years and blended with limited-production 3 1⁄2 year-old and 5-year-old extra añejo. The result is a tequila with velvety buttered toffee, vanilla, smoke and oak notes with a medium dry finish, the company says.

The tequila is 80 proof and retails for approximately $59.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
